There are tons of New Media out today that cater to very niche groups of people. If I were to create a new type of New Media, it would be an site that allows people to be paired with hosts on vacations. I find that when I go to a new place, I would get to see a lot more if I had someone with me that knew the area. This will also allow people to connect with one another and potentially make a new friend in a random city. This site will also let users review their host and suggest them to their friends. This site's target audience will be for people who enjoy traveling and those who enjoy showing their city around to people.
Hi Dawud, if I understand you correctly, the "host" is the person from the local area where you're visiting and will serve as your tour guide? If so, I think this service already exist. (https://www.toursbylocals.com/). The idea is great, because the local person will often show you places that you ordinarily wouldn't visit as a tourist yourself. So perhaps you will have a deeper understanding of the culture and the language, etc. But such service, if I understand correctly, already exists.
ReplyDeleteHey Dawud- This would definitely be beneficial to travelers. I think the feature where the traveler reviews and potentially rates their hosts is cool and reminds me of Uber mixed with Yelp. This idea would shave a lot of waiting time for people, especially when they want to find the next place to stop at, whereas their host would have destinations planned out for them to visit. This would be cool for "foodies" too because the hosts, assuming that they're tour guides or locals, can bring the tourists to tasty, underrated food places.
